Hardie® Architectural Panel: Rethinking Facades

Hardie® Architectural Panel: Rethinking Facades

04/10/2023
Affordable high-quality housing is a priority for architects and planners. However, the conditions in this segment are challenging. With the new Hardie® Architectural Panel made from durable fiber cement, the balance between sophisticated design and cost-effectiveness is achieved.
Cities are growing, and affordable housing is scarce. For architects and planners, creating quality urban spaces has become a significant challenge. This extends beyond trendy residential neighborhoods or prestigious office buildings—it includes cost-effective, multi-story residential construction. Cities, municipalities, and cooperatives increasingly emphasize planning quality through stylish facade designs and expressive color concepts, challenging the stereotype of monotonous apartment buildings. High-quality building design contributes to upscale living neighborhoods—design over monotony.

The Hardie® Architectural Panel now offers a product that bridges the gap between high-quality design and economic feasibility.

However, economic constraints often limit architects’ and planners’ creativity. Soaring land prices demand cost-efficient solutions to keep construction costs low and housing affordable. Robust products with low maintenance requirements and high design quality are sought after. James Hardie’s Hardie® Architectural Panel meets precisely these demands.

These large-format facade panels (3048 mm x 1220 mm x 8 mm) result from years of research in the company’s research and development center. The goal was to combine the positive properties of fiber cement with modern, attractive surfaces in a single product. When combined with the smooth-surfaced Hardie® Panel facade panels, a mix is available that turns facades into eye-catching features while remaining cost-effective.

The Hardie® Architectural Panel can be used in both new construction and renovation projects.

With two distinct surfaces—Brushed Concrete and Textured Plaster—and six colors (Snow White, Pebble Gray, Anthracite Gray, Mist Gray, Slate Gray, and Black), they provide all the prerequisites for timeless, modern facade designs. Their weather resistance ensures exceptional durability. James Hardie confirms this with a 15-year warranty against breakage and peeling. Easy maintenance and lightfast color finishes further contribute to cost-effective, stylish outcomes. Additionally, they offer maximum safety with excellent fire protection: Hardie® Architectural Panel facade panels are non-combustible (fire protection class A2, s1-d0).

Hardie® Architectural Panel facade panels fulfill all the requirements for economically realizing timeless modern facade designs. Like all Hardie® Panel facade panels, the Hardie® Architectural Panel can be installed as a ventilated facade on a wooden or aluminum substructure, with or without insulation. Direct mounting on masonry walls is also possible. The installation process is straightforward, with the Hardie™ Saw Blade allowing easy cutting to the correct size. Color-matched Hardie™ Panel rivets, screws, and Hardie™ Panel MetalTrim Profiles provide the finishing touches. All accessories are designed for straightforward installation.
